This guide book is the first work to give a comprehensive list and description of the historical monuments which have remained from more than 600 Jewish communities and a survey of the history of Jewish settlement in the Czech Republic. The guide contains comprehensive encyclopedic entries, arranged in alphabetical order, dealing with the history of 138 selected Jewish communities in Bohemia, Moravia, and Silesia (including Bratislava as a center of the Jewish life in Slovakia) and brings information about the present state of their synagogues and cemeteries. Listed here are also significant personalities whose lives were linked with the communities. Notes are also included on about 500 other vanished Jewish communities and their architecture. Readers will find information about all the synagogues and cemeteries destroyed during the Holocaust and in the post-World War II period, concentration and labor camps, and mass graves of the Jewish victims of the Nazis.
